I was at the exhibition. It was at Yellow Book Road. Parents were arriving but suddenly... there was a loud, crack! I didn’t know what it was. Was it mine? Yes it was. It was my presentation board. It had fallen off the table it had been placed on and it had cracked in two when it hit the ground. I was petrified. So was my partner Sara. The sky darkened like the blackness of space. That board took TWO HOURS to make. I wanted to leave. Forget this ever happened. But I couldn’t. I had to keep going. I couldn’t just quit. I wanted to be proud of my work. I took a look at my board. I was not going to be useing any time soon. Then I knew what I needed to do. I needed to get another job. My brain boiled. I walked up to the station where we were selling books.
“Can I help Allan?” I asked.
“Yeah. You can advertise,” he said. handing me a book.
“Thanks.” I said.
“24 stories in one book! Only $10.00! Get today and only today!” I yelled. Parents were bustling, chatting non-stop. Money was being handled. It was busy all around.
“Hey! Ethan!” someone yelled. It was Isaac. He needed me to ask people if they had signed the guest book. I went around asking. Most people said yes and walked away. Ms. Chown gave us pens to sign books because we are the authors. I signed many books and I’m pretty sure everyone will like the books. At one point, even my dad showed up.
“Hi dad!” I said, running up to him. He told me he couldn’t stay long because he had work. I was getting tired and sleepy. It had been a long day of chaos. And nothing had gone completely right. The book I reviewed didn’t ever come in, my board fell (as you know), and a button fell off my sport coat. My dad needed to get back to work so I said goodbye and he left. I had just finished touring my mom around the exhibition. Now I was ready to sleep for at least five years. This exhibition might have had its moments. But it will be something I will never forget.
