One day, on March 20th 2014, we went to Dewey Elementary to interview kids whose parents are being deployed. Before we got there, while we were there and afterwards we felt nerveuscited (nervous and excited).
The car ride was only five minutes but I (Emilia) used the opportunity to make pillow sketches in order to help my partner get a vision of what the pillow would look like. When we got there, we went inside a classroom and explained our intriguing plan to help them. After that, we met who we would be interviewing and got to work.

Some memories were heart-wrenching and others were phenomenal and exciting. Quinn’s partner was a bit shy but had mind-blowing things to say. Emilia’s partner was shy at first but once Emilia asked a few more follow-up questions her partner opened up to her more. The best thing about doing the interview was seeing how these people live without their parents. The hardest thing about doing the interview was making them open up to us.
After the interviews these people felt…
Audrey: happy and a little sad; Bjorg: proud; Andrew: awesome; Ethan: nervous; Thaison: fabulous; Sergio: good; Isaac: strange inside and good; Sophia: scared; Delanie: excited; Grady: nervous; Sara: elated; Clifton: shy; Eleri: excited and nervous
