Ding, rang the chime. It was time to start the day.
At morning meeting, we worked on remembering everyone's names. Ms. Chown was really pleased because she made it around the circle, remembering everyone's name, even when we covered our name labels. We also learned about what to do when we heard the chime...
When we hear the chime, we are supposed to stop and look and listen. If people don't stop and look and listen, it can be really frustrating, so we need to stop quickly.
After morning meeting, we explored our table caddies. Ms Chown asked us to use these to make a structure that was as tall as we could make it. Here is what happened to one group.
Our next task was to talk to each other to find one thing we all had in common and then use the equipment to make a picture of this. Our thing in common was math. Other groups chose soccer, the beach, the pool and the park.
"I drew waves because I really like the ocean," Emily
"I wrote in cursive because I really like the style," Anjolie
"I drew the sun because I like the sun and if we didn't have the sun there would be no light stream," Stefan.
"I chose the randomest colors I could find!" Aaron.
In the afternoon we learned about the website and how we are going to be writing this year. We also got a chance to look through the books and select ones that we might like to read this year. We felt excited about all the things that we will be doing but it turned out to be a bit frustrating because we couldn't get on the internet. We had to gather around Ms Chown's computer and her laptop.
Even though we found it hard to see, we still liked reading about Ms. Chown and seeing the pictures and self portraits.
