ETHAN: How is school? Did you do anything exciting?
AUDREY: Yes I did. We did something called the “Jog-A-Thon.”
ETHAN: Cool. What is the “Jog-A-Thon?”
AUDREY: A Jog-A-Thon is Explorer Elementary’s fundraiser for the school. All the kids run laps around a track on a grassy field. We all get sponsors who pay the school for how many laps we run. We want to raise money so we can use the money for getting resources.
ETHAN: Ok. How many laps did you run?
AUDREY: 36 laps. It was hard.
ETHAN: Let me try!
2 hours later…
ETHAN: I’m back! I ran 51 laps! (That last part was true! Though I ran that at the Jog-A-Thon*.) It was hard. I can barely move. How many laps did your friends run?
AUDREY: My friend Andrew ran 40 laps, Eleri ran 38 laps and Grady ran 57!
ETHAN: Wow!!! Your friends are really fast runners! 57, that’s amazing!!!!
AUDREY: Did you know that every 10 laps is a mile!?!
ETHAN: WOW!! The track must be big! How do people feel about the “Jog-A-Thon?”
AUDREY: Well, let me tell you: Quinn felt tremendous, Emilia felt like she really achieved her goal. (37 laps), Cayden felt like he could improve and get even more laps next time. Bjorg achieved her goal. (23 laps) But she was very sore! Jacob also felt like he achieved his goal like Emilia.
ETHAN: Wow! So many different opinions!
AUDREY: Here are some more peoples opinions. Isaac and Allan felt tired. Grady felt really happy and sore. Ms. Chown (our teacher) felt glad to see all the kids she knew from our class and from different classes. She also loved getting out of the classroom into the sunshine.
ETHAN: I’m so glad people feel good about the “Jog-A-Thon!” And for Cayden, “You did really well but I love how you are challenging yourself. I hope you achieve your target next year!”
AUDREY: Here are one word expressions: Tired! Sore! OK! EPIC!
ETHAN: I would love to talk more, but I’ve gotta run! BYE! BYE!
AUDREY: Ok! Bye! Run by you later.
