Our last and final project was our favorite project Operation Story Cushion. There were ups and downs and sewing all around! We learned you have to be resilient in sewing because you will run into impossible knots, losing fabric, and “ouch!!!” needles. This is how it all started… One day Ms. Chown (our teacher) told us that we will make pillow for children whose parents are going to be deployed. We thought that would be so cool! But when we realized we had to hand sew the applique, we freaked out! Then a Marine, a Marine’s daughter, and a sailor came in and shared their experiences with our whole class. The marine (Nick) Shared how he missed his kids a lot and that it would be awesome to have his children not be so sad when he gets deployed. The marine’s daughter (Karica) shared that she was a little depressed when her dad left and she told a whole story about when he came to see her and how it was a big surprise. Then finally sailor (Bob) shared how he also really missed his children and his daughter didn’t recognize him because the baby hadn’t seen him before. |
Then we were inspired so that’s when we got into action and started sewing our extraordinary pillows. They looked amazing! Then it was time to give the pillows to Dewey elementary, the nerve-wracking moment. We gave the pillows to them they loved them! Success! We did it. Man that was an amazing moment that this classroom could never forget.
