We were directed to draw a radiant Japanese style landscape. Ms. Tsai had pieces of paper set out for us. We had to work on a piece of paper that had a rough side and a smooth side. We wrote our names on the rough side because the rough side will mess up our paintings and will make them all jaggedy, The smooth side felt so lush and looked like white snow on a winter day. Before we galloped off to our seats Ms. Tasi showed us some pictures of Japanese paintings they were so stunning it made my eyes broad. Ms. Tasi explained, “I will tap people on the shoulder when they are sitting quietly and not talking to their friends.”
Everybody was chatting away into our own art time. Ms. Tasi got up quietly and started tapping people on the shoulder. For the next twenty minutes we all were drawing our Japanese drawings. I started to sketch, on the yellow paper on the table first, so I wouldn't have to ruin the beautiful white paper by erasing. I decided I was going to draw a little pond, with lily pads. There would be reeds on one side of the pond with a nest of ducklings in the midst. The mama duck was swimming in the pond, picking up little morsels for her babies. There were also fish darting around in the shallows, hoping to find some food. I transferred the picture to the white paper. “There!” I exclaimed with satisfaction, adding the last line to the sun shining over the pond.
Then, the clapping of hands broke our concentration. “Time to clean up class!”We handed in our drawings to Ms. Tasi and sat on the mats. “I’m waiting for a quiet feeling.” said Ms. Tasi. We quietened down.
It was time to read a story from the library it was about landscapes and it had a little accident culture in it so it was a gingerly written in very good detail it was like the story was coming to life. It was about a boy who was alone and didn't have any friends to trust in the end of the story the little boy and his family had a great big adventurer by building a house in the woods. Then it was time for lunch. Art was crazy but it was really fun and we enjoyed it very much.
