All about blogging
Today is our second blog post and we wanted to tell you more about blogging. Blogging is when you tell people on the internet what you have done in your learning. Blogging is fun because you get to write and think. In one day, 328 people read our blog. Our goal is to get over 328 people to read our blog! Next week we will start using our classroom computers to type the blog posts but first we have to learn to login! Read on to find out all about the last two days in Room 15! By Ale and Ian |
Look and draw - EYES AND LIPS
Yesterday we drew our eyes in detail. We each got a mirror. We made up a pattern where we looked at the mirror for five minutes and then drew for one minute. We looked in detail and zoomed in on our eyes. We drew for about half an hour. It sure was hard but in the end the eyes were beautiful. I was definitely happy with mine!

Yesterday the class drew out eyes. We were zooming in on just our eye and drawing it on a piece of paper. We focused on drawing every detail in and around our eyes. We had hand-held mirrors that our teacher, Ms. Chown, gave us. We tried to sketch lightly or press hard with our pencils to show the different shades in the eye. For example, if my eye was dark green, I would press hard on the paper. If my eyes were light green then I would sketch lightly. I like this activity because it feels... (to be continued) By Seth |
We looked in a mirror and looked at our lips. We drew our lips after this. Some people did smiles and some people did a normal mouth. We added as much details as we could put. After drawing we did a gallery walk where we got five sticky notes and commented on each other's drawings. Read Andres and Soleil's blog below to find out more about gallery walks.

Gallery walk critiques
After we draw, we have a gallery walk. In a gallery walk, we clean up our desks and leave our work on them. We each have five post-it notes to write on. We can go and look at people's work and write kind and specific comments about how people have drawn. It was fun to look at other people's work. I got some ideas about how to do better. It was interesting to look at the lips and the eyes. Here are some of the comments that people wrote.
"I really like the way you drew your eye lashes - they are not just in one place."
"I really like the way you drew the shape in the middle of your lips." We felt nervous about people looking at our work but positive critique makes us feel really good. By Andres and Soleil |
A guide book to our class
We have been writing a guide book to our class! It is for new students so that they can learn what to do and when to do it. It is also to help us remember what we have to do.
Every member of Room 15 is making a page of the book telling different things to do and when to do them. Like: when Ms. Chown rings the chime, when it is time to clean up supplies, when you need to use the bathroom and when we walk in the hallway and the end of the day. On the page there is space for a drawing, in the book there will be 24 pages.

RECESS
Recess is a time to enjoy your lunch. It is also time to have a break from school work. At recess, you can play any game you want - like kickball, spider or hopscotch. You can also make up your own games like fairies.
I can teach you how to play games like spider and hopscotch. In spider you have to run around in a giant circle with white lines. The spider has to run around trying to tag people on the white line. Whoever they tag becomes the spider.

Books we have read
We have read two books over the last two days. The first one was Baby Brains. When Baby Brains was born, his mom heard a noise, then when she walked into the living room, she saw Baby Brains reading the paper. Then Baby Brains helped his dad to fix the car. His Dad was shocked. Baby Brains's first words were "Can I go to school tomorrow?" He went on lots of adventures until he decided to go to space. In space he got scared and yelled, "I WANT MY MOMMY!" We thought that this book was super duper funny and it makes us want to know what happens next. It also makes us feel brave about ourselves because he accomplished so much and we can too. It will make us try new things. By Addison and Leila |
So, today's blogging is about The Gruffalo. The Gruffalo is a fiction story for kids. A gruffalo is a big and scary monster. He has terrible tusks and terrible claws and terrible jaws and knobbly knees and turned out toes. His eyes are orange and his tongue is black. He has purple prickles all over his back. There's also a mouse, a fox, an owl and a snake. The mouse said all the things (above) about the gruffalo to the fox, owl and snake. This stops the mouse from getting eaten. We really liked reading The Gruffalo together. So that's today's blogging! By Kyle and Peter |
Independent reading
Reading is a big part of our class in Room 15 because we like to read. My name is Ethan and my partner's name is Dulce and we love to read. Ms. Chown also likes to read. People in our class LOVE to read. Reading is good for you because it extends your imagination. By Ethan and Dulce |
Choosing our books
On Tuesday, before lunch, we chose our first books of the school year. I walked into the class library. Books towered over me. I shivered. I was terrified. Nope, just kidding.
WE LOVE BOOKS
So many books! Hmmm... let's see, I'll take three. Just then I heard Ms. Chown's voice saying "Just one book," Darn! Eh, who cares. I snuck some anyway.*
OK, let's see. I love Roald Dahl! The BFG, Boy, Danny the Champion of the World and Matilda. I highly recommend these books. Now, back to business. I tiptoed out of the library with three books.
My friend Anelisa spotted me. "What are you doing?" she asked me. I got spotted! Noooooo! Oh well, I have to go read!
Bye!
By Ella and Anelisa
OK, we're back! We're now going to share our hopes and dreams for reading with you. I (Ella) hope to accomplish my goal for reading 50 books this school year. Anelisa's goal is to read a 1200 paged book. Ms. Chown says that there will be a book challenge this year that she will announce soon. Yay!
Bye again!

Science
In science we talked about what we were doing this year. After that we had to answer a sheet that asked us questions about things we liked about science. After we finished the sheet, we had to draw a picture of what we wanted to do this year in science.
After that we had free time. Some people played with the animals, such as hermit crabs, a lizard, a tarantula, cockroaches and hamsters, Some people looked at the science supplies and some people read books. Science is awesome! Will played with the lizard (Spike) and Ian raced hermit crabs.
