- rain drops hitting the floor!
- Odysseus's beautiful wife Penelope singing!
- birds chirping in trees!
- the beating of a swan's wings!
- dragging on the sand!
- moaning of the wind!
- ticking of changing seasons!
- chipmunks chewing acorns! *

This week we read some more of our class story called Odysseus. We are reading this book to learn more about greek myths. One of the chapters that we read was called The Song of the Spheres.
Before reading this chapter, we were a bit scared. We knew what sirens were. Sirens sing a song so make you go in sort of a trance and you steer your boat into the the jagged rocks near their home. How Odysseus described the song was, the beating of a swan’s wings, the hiss and drag of the sea on the sand, the moan of the wind, the rhythm of the passing seasons, and his wife singing to him. Then we re-created the song. After that we wrote our own poems filled with sounds that would have a dramatic effect on us.
Some examples are…(these are Ella's)
- The low hum of a clarinet warming up in an orchestra
- The gentle flap of a mail carrying owl taking off from Hogwarts, (From Harry Potter)
Ian also wrote a poem. When he got to the end of his poem, he challenged himself to write another few lines. Then he challenged himself to write a few more. Suddenly, his brain exploded and he wrote and wrote until he had a whole page written. He was really proud. Here are his six favorite lines:
- The rattle of a rattlesnake.
- The croak of a frog
- the tree leaves gently hitting each other
- waves crashing into jagged rocks
- the sound of me slurping the last drop of icy cold lemonade (with a straw)
- the sound of my mom closing her sunglasses after a walk in the park on a long day.
