Math in Room 15
Math is in everything we do. We learn and use math within our projects to help us to plan, investigate and communicate. We also learn math to help us understand more about the world. Check out the slides below to see more about some of the math we have been working on together.
Fractions and Decimals
|
At the beginning of the year, we started talking about decimals as part of our work on place value. Now we are thinking about fractions too. We will be learning to compare, order, add, subtract and multiply fractions. We will learn how to convert fractions to decimals and vice versa. Throughout, we will solve problems involving fractions of numbers, measurements, etc. This will help us to use the knowledge that we are gaining though our math investigations in our everyday lives.
Each day we also take some time to revise things that we have already learnt. This helps us to retain our knowledge, as well as to experiment with new ideas in greater depth. Sometimes we use questions from the Smarter Balance Practice Test for our revision. This helps us to familiarize ourselves with the kind of questions that we might see in May. |
Data analysis
"
|
We conducted investigations to help us to learn more about our reading and writing habits. We examined different types of graphs to display our data and chose one to use in our own work. We looked closely at what the graphs told us and then wrote conclusions to share our thinking with others.
This math was a key part of our Adventure... Bound project. |
