Knowing Me, Knowing You (an anthropology project)
Esssential question: who are we and how are we connected?
The Knowing Me, Knowing You project began at the start of our fourth grade journey. Through drafts, critique, and fun we will lay the foundations of Room 15: the class who are resilient, who learn and laugh together and the class who embrace challenges in order to produce high quality work.
Anthropologists study human life, in the past and present. As we drew our self-portraits, wrote biographies and used math to investigate different ways that we are connected, we became anthropologists and learned more about ourselves and each other.

Online exhibitionWe exhibited our project at Con Pane: a local bakery and cafe who were looking to brighten up their walls and make a greater connection with the community. The exhibition allowed us to share our work with the community of Liberty Station. After the exhibition, the bakery kept our work on their walls for another 3 weeks.
You can check out our online exhibition here. Or, you can read our blog post about our exhibition here. |

Anthropologist homeworkWe were really excited about the artifacts from Ancient Civilizations that we saw in the Museum of Man. As we wanted to find out more so we chose a civilization to research for homework. As part of this research we created something to share our knowledge. After 5 weeks of working on this at home, we presented our findings to the class. Click here to see the presentations, movies and models that we came up with.

collaboration with fifth gradeMany fifth graders created self-portraits when they were in Ms. Chown's class last year and so they were experts at how to blend colors and draw faces. Being able to consult with experts was incredibly useful at the beginning of our project. You can read our blog post about it here.
Later on, we gave the fifth graders critique on their poem performances and we held our exhibition and a performed a gathering together. Find out all about the performance in our blog post here. You can also read about our rehearsals here. |
