Ms Chown Autobiography
I was born in a town called Kingston upon Thames in England. Just after I started school, my parents moved to Hannover in Germany. This meant that I had to start at a new school and make new friends. I was really nervous because all my old friends were so far away but I soon settled in. It turned out that meeting new people was really fun and Germany had fantastic playgrounds. Another amazing thing about living in Germany was the castles. If you ever go to Germany (which I know is very far away from San Diego), I recommend you have a look at the castles (By the way, castle in German is schloss).
We didn't move back to England until I was 11, so I had to get to know all my friends in England all over again! After that, my family have stayed in one place but it has been me that has moved, first to Sheffield (a city in Northern England) to go to university and then to London to be a teacher.
My old school was called Kilmorie Primary School and I had a lot of fun there. At first I taught 2nd and 3rd grade, then I taught 5th grade (we call it year 6 in England). My class made me laugh a lot and I was sad to say goodbye to them when they left to go to secondary school. However, at the same time, I was super excited because I knew I was coming to teach 4th grade at Explorer. I love teaching at Explorer - it is a wonderful school to be part of. Room 15 always work on so many exciting things. I can't wait to get to know my class this year. I have a feeling that this is going to be a very special year and we are going to do some amazing things together.

Your questions answered
Who is in your family?
I live with my husband Alec. We have two cats (see the picture) but they are living in England with my parents at the moment. I have two brothers who still live in England. One of them is a juggler!
You have a silly picture, do you like pulling faces?
Yes! I also like dressing up in crazy costumes and wearing hats.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Hmmm, a difficult question. I love ice cream! I think mango sorbet is my favorite right now because it is so refreshing and delicious. On the other hand, I really love salted caramel... then again, I really love strawberry, oh, and banana. Arrrrrrggghh! Why do you ask such difficult questions?
What are your favorite things to do at school?
I love learning about everything - that is why I became an elementary school teacher. Art is one of my favorite subjects though - so we will do lots of it in Room 15 this year (as well as in art lessons).
What are your favorite things to do outside of school?
Even though I have now lived in San Diego for two years, I still love spending my time exploring the city and the surrounding area. My husband and I like to camp so I would love to hear any camping recommendations that you have. There are loads of other things I love doing too - going to the beach, swimming, cooking, gardening, writing in my notebook, reading, and finding new hats to wear. I sometimes go climbing with some of the other teachers in the school. Last spring I went climbing outside for the first time and it was one of the most exciting things I have ever done! I was shaking when I got to the top but, on the way up, I kept telling myself to take one more step and I made it!
How can I ask you a question?
That's easy, simply go to the Room 15 blog and type your question in the comments section there. I will do my best to answer it!

Ms. Chown is learning!
All teachers learn every day but this year is extra special for me as I have joined the Teacher Leadership masters program run by the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. Once a week, after school, I go to class! I love being part of a group of teachers who are learning more about what we teach, why we teach and how we teach.
