Yellow Book Road project description and origins
ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How can we combine our knowledge, skills and interests to help a local bookshop?
This project all began with a trip to our local bookstore to meet the author of the incredible Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Jeff Kinney. Before he graciously signed our books (never once complaining as we handed him book after book), Kinney spoke about writing and why he had decided to come to Yellow Book Road to meet us.

what happened next? When we watched the video again the next day, we were especially intrigued by his remarks about independent bookstores. What are independent bookstores? Why does Jeff Kinney love them? Should we love them too? We decided to go back to Yellow Book Road to find out. On the morning of Thursday, November 14th, before the bookstore opened, we interviewed the owner of Yellow Book Road. Through her answers to our questions, we found out the challenges and opportunities that independent bookstores face.
We came back from the bookstore bursting with ideas. Our teacher, Ms. Chown, pulled these together into the project that you see in the documents below. We decided to use our skills and interests to create a book of animal stories, animal bookcases to display books and book reviews to help other customers make their selections.
