On January the 17th, Room 15 enjoyed Grandparents and Special Friends day. On that day, we read An Awesome Book by Dallas Clayton. The book is about places in the world where people do not dream. In fact, it's "A little book about dreaming big."
Ms. Chown read it aloud and thought it was similar to "The Magic Box", which is a poem by Kit Wright. In the poem, Wright thinks of different things that could be put in a magic box. He also thinks of different incredible things that he could do in it. The box was small but you could put anything in it. This led us to our next activity.
We went back to our tables where our grandparents or special friends were waiting, and came up with ideas of what we would put or do in our box. This is what we came up with as a class:
I will put in my box
the laughter from heaven,
a strong tiger roaring,
and a merry bird chirping.
I will put in the box
the smoothest dark chocolate ever made,
a tingling tongue licking the sourest popsicle,
and the largest candy cane ever made.
I will put in the box the magic of Disneyland,
pink butterflies flying through a garden,
and the blue waves crashing against the golden sand.
We then wrote shared poems with our visitors so that they would have something special to take home with them. The rest of our day will be in another blog post (written by Jacob)!
Overall Sophia felt happy because it was fun to write a poem with her grandma, and I felt overjoyed to see my Grandpop and Grandma Janice one more time before they went to Canada!
Thanks for reading!
