Every thursday we go to library to listen to a story and check out books. We are a class who loves to read. So everybody checks out two books and sometimes movies audio books. This week Ms. Megan gave us a presentation to help us learn more about how to search books. We love the library and we love Ms. Megan and all the books! BY ISAAC & JONATHAN

So Room 15, on Friday you wrote your blogs by yourself (or in a a pair) for the first time. As this was different to the way that we had done it before, I would like to hear how you thought it went. What made it hard? What made it easy? What did you enjoy and why?
The second thing that I would like to know is what do you think makes a good blog post? In order to answer this, you need to read through all the blogs that we wrote this week and think about what you like. If you can, talk to a friend or an adult about what stands out for them? Do you agree? Why? If you are not in Room 15, we would still like to hear from you. What do you think makes a good blog post? What are we doing well and what could we improve? Leave your answers to these questions below. Love, Ms. Chown This is how we did our protocol mini plays. First we got a topic. For example my group did a play about the protocol for walking in the hallways. It was caling but fun. It took 5 day to make the plays. Then the day came we had to fillm. It was so fun doing I love doing filming them. The plays are going on our website. Did we tell you how this all started. We did not. OK, this all started when Ms. Chown thought that we needed to know the rules of Room 15 and that a play was a good way for us to show that we knew the rules and also teach them to other people. That way if a new person joined our class they could just watch the plays and they would know what to do. At first we got too distracted in our groups so Ms. Chown thought about how to help us with this. In the end we got to do the plays. I hope we can do them again.
Bjorg drawing her self-portrait
A few days ago we made 1st draft portraits for our project Knowing me, Knowing you. Like Ms.Chown says "look every 5 min for every 1 min drawing" and that is EXACTLY what we did! It was hard for some people and easy for others. people where drawing to small (like me Audrey) that was hard but I fellt like the only part that was hard was the face shape. for others (like me Emilia) the eyes, nose, and the lips where hard but once i got them done i loves how they looked We are using the self portraits for are interview but thats another blog post! like in the picture we used mirrors to look at our selves so that we where drawing what we saw not what we thought we looked like. we will see you in a other blog post! bye! By Audrey and Emilia (due to computer problems, this post is being rewritten. Check back for more information on Monday). Tanner's collage Today we did collages. They were about our field trip to the Museum of Man.We were doing it to reflect on our field trip yesterday. A description of what happened is first we had a meeting at the rug. In our meeting we thought about what an anthropologist is. We created a hat for an anthropologist and on stickies we wrote all the things that anthropologists do. For example they compare and contrast, they observe and come up with theories, they make educated guesses (hypothesis) and use the knowledge that they have but they never know for sure. Garrett's collage On each collage we did different things. Ms. Chown took different pictures of us at the Museum of Man to help us remember. We had to choose a picture and we had to write a caption about the picture. If we wanted to challenge ourselves and think of a connection between us and anthropologists, we could do it on a puzzle piece to show how we all fit together. Then we had to answer the questions:
Answering these questions helped us remember what we learned at the Museum yesterday. it was hard doing the caption and the puzzle piece because I spelled some of the words wrong. By Tanner and Garrett During this week we learned how to expand numbers. For example 6237 expanded would be 6000+200+30+7=6237 we also learned how to count up into hundred thousands using 1s. In math classes there are a 1 star challenge a 2 star challenge and 3 star challenge. The 1 star makes you think. 2 stars is a challenge and 3 stars is a super challenge. We can choose which one we do but Ms.Chown checks that we are challenging ourselves. For some people the 3 star challenge was hard for others it was quiteeasy.Ms. Chown has told us that they are getting harder! We learned a lot this week. The end. By Troy
It was fun to have a chance to play together as a class.
After the museum of man [see other blog post] we went to Pepper Grove Park to play on the structures. Some of us played on the smaller structure and most on the bigger. The smaller one had 3 slides. The BIGGER one was split up in to 3 parts. You climb something to get to the second part of the big one. Then there is a structure that you climb up a wobbly, zig-zaggy, plastic plank. There were 2 of them one went up slightly, & the other one went up a lot higher. There was also a swing set. Everyone was very happy that we got to go to the park. We learned that after we do what we need to do if there is still time left over we can do something fun. What is fun for you?! by Cayden and Nora Room 15 has read at least 4 books this week, which is the second week of school. On Tuesday we Varmints and on Wednesday we read The Book Eating Boy. Yesterday afternoon (after our trip to the Museum of Man) each child got to chose which book they wanted to read and read it in there mind or out loud. In the morning before we left for the museum, we read The Whale and the Snail. It was about a whale that asked the snail to come sail with him and it was sunny some days and a storm another day. We enjoy story time because we get to relax and listen to great stories. Last week we read some great books as well like: Enemy pie, Baby Brains, Sitting Ducks, Eggbert and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. Fred is saved!
Saving Fred is when Fred (the gummy worm) is trapped under his boat (the plastic cup) and a life vest (gummy lifesavers). We are supposed to save his life. But… you have to use 4 paper clips to get Fred out from underneath his boat and on top of it safely with the life vest on him. It was hard work but what made it even harder was “HE IS ALLERGIC TO HUMAN HANDS!” so you are suppose to only use the paper clip to get him out how crazy is that? But everyone had to find a solution and most of them worked. It was hard trying to work together and make it work. This is a fun activity to do at school and at home and it only involvs a gummy worm, 4 paperclips, and a lifesaver hope you enjoy. By Delanie & Katherine A few questions from Ms. Chown In order to help me plan our learning for the future, answer one or more of the questions below:
In art we had to get a big piece of paper and glue another piece a paper that was smaller to it. Then we had to get a ruler and a pencil to make lines on the small piece of paper. After that we had to cut the lines in order. The next thing was we had to get glue and glue the lines to the big piece of paper. We just put it all together and it just look like a sculpture. It was fun because you got to design your own paper but with glue. The hardest part was also the designing cause you wanted it to be perfect. by Sergio and Thaison |
