“Ms. Chown is as nice as marmite,” is what her students might tell you. She is a teacher at Explorer Elementary in Room 15. Her students are in fourth grade. If you find yourself in fourth grade with Ms. Chown next year, here’s what you need to know. Expect to laugh because she is funny. Expect her to give you a lot of math problems. Expect her to make you try marmite because she is from Claygate on the outskirts of London, England. (You’ll love it once you try it, it’s delicious!!!) Oh, and expect to hear an English accent.
Ms. Chown comes up with great projects, such as “Knowing Me, Knowing You.” You might get to draw a self-portrait, and may even write a biography. She might find a cool place for you to have an exhibition. If you’re really lucky you might get to go to Con Pane, Museum of (Wo)Man, Yellow Book Road, or the Safari Park. She might take you over to High Tech Middle or Panera Bread to meet up with your middle school buddies. She may even take you to see other classes’ exhibitions.
If you’re ever in her class, she may take you outside to release your energy - or play games with you inside to get your energy up. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to play any games because she always will explain how to play.
Sometimes when you are just reading a story with Ms. Chown, it can turn into a whole project. Like when we read the book, “Tell Me a Dragon.” We decided that dragons were a powerful animal and next thing you know, we’re drawing dragons and writing our Hopes and Dreams, and now they’re hanging all over our windows, blocking the trash outside from our view.
You may also make origami, use chalk pastels, use highlighters, write animal stories or sing silly songs. Whatever you do with Ms. Chown, she will expect you to be resilient and do your best. You will be one of the luckiest kids on Earth because you will have a lot of knowledge from one of the most tremendously brilliant, thrilling, courageous, glorious teachers on this planet!
P.S. You might find yourself in a pool of marmite!
P.P.S. Bagel Breakfasts may appear on Field Trip days.
