Ms. Chown had just dismissed us. Everyone went running around finding loose parts to build with. I stepped into the shadows. There were bamboo poles making structures and twine tying things together. There were teepees improving every second and boxes getting put together and apart. This was just the beginning. I stepped out of the shadows. I saw Kyle forcing bamboo poles into the ground. I asked if I could join him. He replied “yes” so I started helping him force bamboo poles into the ground. The bamboo poles twisted and turned slowly into the ground with the help of our hands. “What are we making?” I asked Kyle. “Well I was going to make a teepee” He replied. Once we were done with the bamboo poles I tied a plastic bag around the top of the bamboo poles so it looked more like a teepee. Me and Kyle helped each other put a cardboard box on the top of the sticks. I saw that Andre’s and Ian covering there teppei with paper bags and it looked so cool that I idmittedly wanted to that to. I collected a paper bag and some twine from Ethan and ran back to where I found Kyle helping reinforce the plastic bag by tightening it. Kyle held the paper bag on the teepee while I tied twine around the paper bag. We ended up with an awesome, paper bag covered, cool looking, teepee. |
I got started with the Adventure Playground Project when Ms. Chown invited me to her POL( Presentation of Learning ) for the adventure playground she talked about it in an adult way because there was only 5 children there. There I got the basics of what the Adventure Playground Project was about. 3 months later Ms.Chown introduced to the class. Everybody wanted to start one right away. All we had to do was plan. We interviewed Lisa Goldman a landscape architect for The Foundation Loose Parts Play. From the interview we got the supplies list for building A Loose Parts Play and we also added a few other things because this was an Adventure Playground. Once we got enough materials we started our first draft playground of the Adventure Playground Project. That was were I was.
Me and Kyle had just agreed to take the teepee down and build a cube out of twine and bamboo poles. I was sad to take down something I had just created but I knew that the cube was going to be awesome. Once we had started building the cube Ian started to help. We had just inserted all our poles into the ground and were now making the second part of the structure. Unfortunately we had just ran out of bamboo poles. Fortunately Andres joined us too and he brought more bamboo poles! We had just made the full structure of the cube when it was time to clean up. We cleaned up but the styrofoam was a big problem. All the little grains were flying all over and it was hard to pick them up and put them in the trash. I learned that I don’t want to bring styrofoam next draft. Otherwise the adventure playground went really well!
