I was very excited that morning! We were going to be launching our book and selling it at Yellow Book Road. I woke up and started smiling like I had never smiled before (because the year before my brother Sergio had been selling his book there too). I got on my clothes on, brushed my teeth and ate breakfast. After that I ran to the car saying “COME ON COME ON!” to everyone.
I finally arrived at school, running into class. When I got into my class, I saw scissors and glue being used because everyone was on a team and everyone was making posters and typing. It was a good type of hectic. So I got to my desk and started to think to myself what do I need to do.
Then Ms.Chown started passing out checklists and I read it so then I knew what to do. I needed to type my speech about Words Alive. When I finished that it was time for morning meeting. We greeted each other and went straight back to work. That is basically what we did the entire time - WORK. Honestly. I had a lot of fun doing all that work, it made me feel confident.
Snack. WORK. Lunch. Finally we were done with all that work! It was time to leave so we all could be there in time to meet Words Alive. And so we all got hold of some stuff that we needed for our exhibition. We walked straight to Yellow Book Road (YBR) it was fun walking there I got to talk to my friends and I got to think about how it is going to be during the exhibition.
When we got there we sat with Ms. Ann (the bookstore owner) in a reading corner and started assigning spots and setting stuff down.
Before the exhibition we had time to ask Christina (from Words Alive), more about what the organization did. We found out that they help kids from kindergarten to third grade. Then they have a gap that they are trying to fill. Then they help kids from high school to college!
So we were just standing there talking to each other when Ms. Chown “it’s time to share the extracts from our story.” So we ran outside I sat there waiting for my turn. That's when I remembered that I forgot to get my Words Alive speech. Words Alive is a charity that helps children to seniors to read. When I told Ms. Chown that I had forgotten, she told me I would have to read it a different time on a different day. I was kind of sad because it was fun practicing but I knew the world was not going to end.
When we were done sharing, we went back to where we set up. There were a million people there and our job was telling them all about the great charity! We collected lots of donations and all learned a lot! That night I fell asleep easily because I knew we had done a good job! IT WAS THE BEST TIME EVER!
WHAT I WILL REMEMBER FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE is that I was brave enough to share in front of more than 50 people!
WHAT WAS HARD: What was hard was trying not to worry that we would not finish on time because we spent a lot of time on the banner.
WHAT WAS EASY: I was brave enough to tell people about words alive!
HERE WAS MY EXTRACT!
Piankh wanted to make sure he was ok so he ran over screaming "WAKE UP WAKE UP!" But the man did not answer. Tears streaming down his face piankh wishperd to himself “I will get out of here and I will get home.”
