If someone didn't go on the tree, they played football or the frisbee or played a board game or just had a walk/run around the camp. Some people just sat around the campfire. Because the sun is closer in the mountains and the air is colder up there, it was cold and warm at the same time (its like being in the middle of the desert and antarctica)!
When it was lunch time, I had to leave the tree. But first I hugged it! We went to eat. There were beans, quesadillas, lemon aid and brown rice. when I was done eating, Ms.Chown said put your forks in the green bag and put your names on your cup when you're done, and so I did. I raced back to the tree, luckily no one was there. I forgot I had a pillow pet panda, I named it pandapuff. I had to get it from my tent. I strapped it to the tree branch a few more people came to the tree, the maximum is three so only two people can go on. When someone came off the tree, a girl named Emily came on and she climbed the tree all the way to the top. Everyone looked at her she said, "what is it?" Everyone jumped with excitement and glanced at her and a girl named Anelisa said, "how do you do that?"
Emily said, "Easy, you just get a branch, pull up and try to get your legs to another branch, let go of the branch you're holding on, hang for a little bit and pull yourself up." Anelisa said, "Ok, that sounds easy." She climbed the tree, she got so high (but not that high) Anelisa said, "Emily look I’m doing it, OMG." Emily said, "you’re doing great, you can do it."Another person came up to Emily and asked her, "are you going to be a daredevil when you grow up?" Emily said, "I’m not sure about that, maybe." |
Emily said, "Sure I can its simple, just ask Anelisa."
Ivan said "OK, Anelisa where are you?"
Anelisa said "I’m right here, what do you need me for?"
Ivan said, "Emily said to ask you to teach me how to climb the tree like Emily."
Anelisa said, "Alright first things first. Grab a branch, do a little pull up and swing your legs to the closest branch and let go of the branch you holding. Try to grab the branch your legs are holding and thats it. Easy as pie."
Ivan said, "OK I’ll try it out. It looks easy." Ivan looked frightened, everyone looked. He did it!
"Waa-hoo," everyone cheered when I was cheering.
Something caught my eye. It was a long stick, it looked really cool. I picked it up, it felt a little smooth. I had to do a little adjustments to it, I just need a rock to break the parts that are sticking out. I accidentally hit myself, on my hand with the rock, it really hurt, but it didn't bleed it just turned red. Someone asked if they can have the stick, I said, "Sure, I'll just find another stick," and I found one right next to my foot. It was camouflaged with the leaves and dirt.
Then I found a huge log I couldn't even jump over it. It’s hard to jump high. I can jump 20 inches - that’s not that high although I called my friends they all said, "Wow that’s big super big." Then, I ran back to the tree. I saw something: a broken branch. Who could have done this? Oh no, this is bad! Well it was still healthy, the leaves were green, there’s nothing to worry about right? Oh well at least it's not dead. I hope not. We need to save the tree or leave it be (hey that rhymes). I need to tell my friends to at least climb the tree for a little bit, or play something else like frisbee, or ran around or sit next to the campfire. Just don’t go to the tree that much OK? The tree is like mother nature's little baby but some other trees got burned from the forest fire. At least it's over, but it will come back any time or even right now. No one knows. I didn’t feel comfortable that the tree was broken, no one knows what’s going to happen. I don’t want it to die or will it live? Later, I went to my friends (Andres and Cruz)'s tent. They called it the MAN CAVE! That sounds really cool. I really like how people name something their own team made up. Like the flaming diamonds and the green grasshoppers and a few other stuff like that. But I felt sad because my mom wasn't there. I missed her. My mom's name is Sone Sayavanh. She’s very nice and kind and helpful. Then I started to play hide and seek with my friends Soleil, Halle, Ale. A few other people played and when we were finished playing it was night and we had s’mores and sang songs around the campfire. Next it was time to go to sleep and we will play again tomorrow. When I was in my tent, I was sleeping with two boys named Ivan and Ethan. They talked for awhile and I couldn't go to sleep because they talked about Target and Walmart and other stuff and I finally went to sleep, but they still were talking. By Kyle Sayavanh |
