Welcome to our first blog of fourth grade. We had a wonderful day today. I am excited because I learned everybody's names and we got started with three of my favorite things: sharing stories, math and blogging. I am especially excited because I think this class are ready for our first project of the year. We will launch it tomorrow so watch this space! Read on to find out more about our day in the words of the experts: the students themselves. |

The chime
One of the signals in our class is the chime. When we hear the chime, we are supposed to stop, look and listen to the teacher (Ms. Chown). At the beginning of school, Ms. Chown rang the chime and we were able to stop, look at listen in 30 seconds. Ms. Chown said "we need to learn to do that faster!" By the time it was snack time we were able to do it in 23 seconds - that's a big difference! Then by lunch time it was 10 seconds. Once, when it was math, it even took 3 seconds! The class was so happy that we got to our goal. By Annia and Paloma |

enemy Pie
After recess, we read a book called Enemy Pie. We liked it because it was inspiring to us and it was funny. The book was by Derek Munson. It was about a boy who had an enemy. His Dad said that he would bake a pie that would get rid of enemies but by the time the enemy ate it, he and the boy had become friends. Most of us think that the Dad tricked the boy but we were happy that they ended up being friends. The message of this book is that when you get to know people, you find things in common and you might even become friends. By Ale, Ian and Andreas |
3-2-1, presenting the Caddy challenge!
We did the challenges because we were learning to work together as a table and where everything in our caddy goes. The first round that we had to do was to create the tallest structure that we could build. We only had two minutes to do this. The second structure was the widest structure that we could build and then the third structure was something that your group had in common. For example, one group made a grill because they all like to cook. The last challenge was to put everything back in your caddy neatly in one minute.
So far we love Room 15!

Math
Our second challenge was a sheet with different random 2-digit numbers. We then had to work out what you could add to that number to make 100. It doesn't take a mathematician to figure out this problem: math is hard!
