When someone suggests that you do something that you do something scary. How do you react? If it is dangerous, I say a definite no. However, if it is something that is scary because it is a completely new experience for me and it is something that will help me to learn more about education (my passion), I try to say yes. This philosophy of saying yes is how I found myself walking out from San Diego airport to a small plane that would take me to LA. My adventure didn't end in LA however. Instead, it started, almost 16 hours later in Hong Kong. The flight had been fun but when I arrived at the hotel, I was very sleepy. There was no time to sleep however, even though it was about 5am in the morning in San Diego. Instead we rushed to meet the conference organizers for dinner. There was lots of shaking hands, jokes and laughter. As every adventurer needs to be prepared, we discussed the conference program before we stumbled off to sleep. The next day we (my husband Alec and I) were scheduled to give a presentation in front of 100 people. These people were teachers and school directors who worked in Hong Kong international schools and they wanted to learn more about what was happening in High Tech High. This was going to be exciting... ... and terrifying. Eeek! Want to know what happened next? Check back later for the next installment of Ms. Chown's adventures in Hong Kong. |

Wow Ms. Chown! That sounds very exciting! I wish I was there with you! Our class misses you very much. I connect with you because whenever I am talking in a big crowd I get nervous and excited at the same time. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

100 PEOPLE?! I bet you and Alec were very nervous when you stepped in front of that quantity of people. My strategy for not being nervous is trying to hide the expression on my face that states that I am nervous and it makes me feel that they are taking me seriously and I start to feel more confident about the position I am in. I wonder if you will go on any more adventures this year?

Wow! I wish I could go to Hong-Kong! I really like how you put vocabulary in the blog post. I wonder if the number of people rose up to 200! That would be really TERRIFYING! Like Will I wonder if you will fly on any airplanes this year to cool places. My strategy for stage fright is to go with the flow of the presentation.
